Sylvan Tactics

Description

Sylvan Tactics is a strategic card-battling game that combines the positional movement of chess with the abilities, resources, and tactical surprises of a card game. Command an army of woodland creatures, recruit powerful Mercenaries, equip your forces, reshape the battlefield, and outmaneuver your opponent to bring down their King.

Pieces move according to familiar chess rules, but combat happens between adjacent units, creating an entirely new tactical puzzle. Every move, attack, and card competes for a limited supply of Sigils, forcing players to decide not only what they can do, but what is worth doing this turn.

History

Sylvan Tactics began with a simple design question: what happens if chess pieces move like chess, but combat works like a strategy game? From that foundation, the game grew into a hybrid of positional board play and card-driven tactics, with chess pieces serving as customizable units drawn from a shared cast of woodland Mercenaries.

Years of iteration and playtesting have expanded that core idea into a full competitive game that is being developed as both a digital title for Steam and a physical tabletop game on Kickstarter. Both versions will be self-published by Random Seed Games.
